Our Story

​

SOAR Jamison Healing & Family Support Services is a nonprofit organization built on a powerful promise: Survivors Of Abuse Rise. At the heart of our mission is the belief that every person who has faced abuse and trauma deserves a chance to heal, rebuild, and rise above their past with support, hope, and strength.

This vision is deeply personal and comes from the courageous journey of our founder, Lati`a Sheppard-Wilson (formerly Jamison). Lati`a is not only an author, motivational speaker and a compassionate advocate but also a behavioral specialist with over 23 years of experience. Her work with countless individuals—children and adults alike—has shown her the urgent need for giving a voice to those often left unheard.

Lati`a’s commitment to this cause is inspired by her own history of abuse and trauma. Having faced profound challenges in her life, she made a vow: to create safe spaces and prevention services for survivors, ensuring no one feels alone in their healing journey. Her passion for rebuilding, restoration, and empowerment fuels everything SOAR Jamison Healing & Family Support Services stands for.

The family name behind SOAR Jamison Healing & Family Support Services holds a special place in Lati`a’s heart and in the foundation of our nonprofit. Her grandmother, Flossie Jamison, was a beacon of hope and kindness, always giving back to the community and helping anyone who crossed her path. Flossie’s generous spirit ingrained a deep sense of community and compassion that Lati`a proudly carries on. 

Lati`a’s mother, Dr. Reverend Jamison, is a tireless community activist whose dedication to building programs for the less fortunate and those affected by trauma shaped much of Lati`a’s life and vision. Together, their legacy of service and love is woven into the fabric of SOAR Jamison Healing & Family Support Services.
